Project Overview

MEP engineering for residential architects supported the design of the Bakhshi Residence, an 11,800-square-foot custom luxury estate in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. This ground-up, two-story residence was engineered to deliver high-performance mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems that complement the architectural vision while providing long-term comfort, energy efficiency, and operational reliability. The project required close coordination between the architectural and engineering teams to integrate sophisticated residential building systems without compromising aesthetics or functionality.

As a custom luxury home, the residence demanded a thoughtful engineering approach tailored to high-end residential expectations. From early design through construction documentation, the focus remained on creating coordinated, permit-ready MEP systems that maximize usable space, improve constructability, and support the long-term performance of the home. Every engineering decision was developed to complement the architectural layout while providing flexibility for future maintenance and efficient day-to-day operation.

Project Scope

The project included complete mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering for the new two-story custom residence. Engineering services provided fully integrated HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems designed specifically for a luxury residential environment. Each discipline was carefully coordinated with the architectural floor plans and structural framework to ensure efficient system integration while preserving the clean interior aesthetics expected in custom homes.

Mechanical engineering included HVAC design that supports year-round occupant comfort through efficient heating, cooling, and air distribution. Equipment locations and duct routing were coordinated to maximize interior flexibility while maintaining accessibility for long-term maintenance. System layouts were designed to integrate seamlessly within the building envelope while supporting energy-efficient operation and consistent indoor environmental quality.

Electrical engineering included service planning, power distribution, lighting infrastructure, branch circuitry, and coordination for modern residential living. Plumbing engineering incorporated domestic water distribution, sanitary piping, fixture coordination, and utility routing throughout the residence. Utility pathways were carefully planned to minimize conflicts with structural framing and architectural features while simplifying installation during construction.

A major component of the project involved MEP coordination throughout the design process. Mechanical equipment, ductwork, piping, and electrical distribution were coordinated with architectural ceilings, structural framing, and interior layouts to reduce field conflicts and improve constructability. This collaborative approach supports efficient installation, minimizes RFIs during construction, and results in permit-ready MEP documentation that facilitates a smoother approval process.
