The existing apartment building air-conditioning system was recently converted to a 4-pipe chilled and hot water system from the original 2-pipe changeover system. The Design-build HVAC contractor added new 2-pipe chilled water piping for cooling and kept the existing 2-pipe hot water piping system for heating. However, condensation occurs at the new chilled water piping consisting of uninsulated PEX piping. Subsequent remedy to insulate the PEX piping has not been successful in eliminating all condensation. The owner is seeking a permanent solution to the condensation problem.
Mechanical Design Services
Lam + Tea Engineering provided Mechanical Engineering services focused on evaluating and improving the existing chilled water system to ensure optimal performance and comfort.
Our team conducted a detailed review of existing record drawings and performed a site investigation to verify system installation and identify areas of concern. We explored multiple options to mitigate condensation issues and collaborated closely with the owner to determine the most effective solution.
The scope also included preparing design plans for contractor pricing, reviewing bids and providing professional recommendations, and performing site visits during construction to confirm compliance of the installation with the design intent.
